Understanding Asbestos Hazard: Types of Asbestos:
- Crocidolite – The most dangerous, used in insulation.
- Amosite – Found in cement sheets & pipe insulation
- Chrysotile – The most commonly used, still present in many ships & buildings.
- Tremolite, Anthophyllite & Actinolite – Less common but equally hazardous.
Understanding IHM and IHM maintenance regulations:
- Ships flying EU Flags, Flag of nations who are party to Hong Kong Convention and Non _EU flagged ships which calls EU ports must carry a Statement of Compliance (SoC) or Inventory Certificate Issued by a recognized organization or flag state authority after verifying the Inventory Of Hazardous Materials.
- Port State Control (PSC) can verify the IHM and certification.
- Missing or invalid IHM may result in detention or denial of entry into ports (especially in EU).
